BHS IN THE 30s

Dorothy Lorraine Elford
Class of 1935

“We had a lot of fun with the band. One time we were heading over to Payette for a parade, and we got there before lunch so we squandered around town and gotten hot dogs or something. Then we went back to the bus and got our instruments and our capes for the parade. For marching band, I used the piccolo, so the case is not very large. And I could not find my piccolo. Could not find it. And the band assembled with the instruments for the parade and I still couldn’t find my piccolo! So one of the fathers stayed back with me, and he finally found it in the crevice of a seat. So I got it, and I had my uniform on, and I ran across some vacant lots, about a block and a half or something like that, and joined the band to march in the parade. I made it in time for the actual parade.”
