“My friends and I all had ‘Big Sisters’ who were all in the same social group, so we missed out on the worst hazing that sophomores got. I think a bunch of girls sprayed ketchup and mustard on the sophomores and then hosed them down in a car wash — I don’t know if that’s true, though, but it was a story I heard. My Big Sister didn’t really do anything [to or] for me. My friends' Big Sisters took us on The Cruise. In my years, custom cars were huge, where you would put rims on them and paint them and put sound systems in them. [The Cruise] is this thing where you would drive around downtown around a four block square, and you would pick up boys and have a really loud sound system and trade phone numbers with people. We would drive at night, that’s when our Big Sisters would take us. And there was this ‘Hick Corner’ where all the rednecks hung out, and the thugs on another corner…”
